Save Our Post Offices Now

On Friday 27th October At Baldock Community Centre, Oliver Heald MP For North East Herts And Councillor Andrew Young, Cabinet Member For Policy On North Herts Council, met with several local sub postmasters and mistresses about threats to rural and small post offices.

The group aired their fears about government policy towards the small post offices network and the potentially imminent closure of many local post offices and shops.

During the meeting oliver heald said “ the role of the post office in smaller communities is vital.we must do everything we can to help them succeed”. He promised to take up their case strongly in the house of commons with ministers and talk to the shadow cabinet to help formulate policies which would help local sustainability.

“ It is a fact” he continued “ that without the community work put in by the local post office staff, many elderly and vulnerable people will suffer, and that is not acceptable”

Councillor Young also promised to take the causes up at local government level in order to
Bring further pressure to bear on the post office leadership and the government.

The group present were very grateful that their cause was being taken up and have agreed to meet regularly to continue their fight for survival.

The sub-post offices represented were: Ashwell, Wadesmill, Baldock, Royston, Weston, Barley and Much Hadham
