MP Presses for Plans to be Along Garden City Lines
Commenting on the SNAP consultation launched by Stevenage and North Herts Action Plan, North East Herts MP Oliver Heald has responded to the team explaining that he does not support excessive development in our area. However, he does also make the point that any development which does take place should be on garden city lines following the principles of Ebenezer Howard.
Commenting Oliver Heald said “It is obviously wise to look at the lessons of the past when planning for the future. There is no doubt that the way in which Ebenezer Howard developed the world’s first garden city at Letchworth has proved a resounding triumph. People come from all over the world to see this town planning example. The lessons of Letchworth can be put into the context of a suburb as well as a new town and I certainly hope that any new estates or neighbourhoods which are planned will have the same attention to detail and the human scale as Ebenezer had”.
