MP Welcomes Unveiling of Clarkson Memorial

Commenting on the unveiling of the renovated Thomas Clarkson Monument in Wadesmill, North East Herts MP Oliver Heald said, “Having been involved with the National Exhibition at Westminster to celebrate the Bi-Centenary of the Abolition of the Slave Trade, I was delighted to be able to be present at the unveiling of this Monument to Thomas Clarkson.

“It was when he was at Wadesmill that Thomas Clarkson decided to write his famous essay which was the starting point of the final campaign to abolish the slave trade. It was marvellous that relatives of Clarkson were able to be there, including his cousin from Whitwell.”

The unveiling was carried out by the Chairman of Hertfordshire County Council, Cllr Nigel Brook.
