MP Unveils Plaque to Commemorate Conservative Club Centenary
North East Herts MP Oliver Heald has unveiled a plaque at Letchworth Garden City Conservative Club, to celebrate a hundred years of the Club’s history.
Also present was Jonathan Evans MEP, National Chairman of the Association of Conservative Clubs.
The fundraising for the Letchworth Garden City Conservative Club started in 1907 and the Club was delighted to celebrate its Centenary at the unveiling of the plaque and Centenary Lunch held recently.
Alan Millard photographed Oliver Heald unveiling the plaque in the presence of Mr Evans, with Club Chairman Stephen Shaddick also present.
Commenting, Oliver Heald said, “The Letchworth Conservative Club has had a long history in the Garden City and I am delighted to be able to unveil this plaque to celebrate its Hundredth Anniversary.
“When the Club first opened its licence described it as the “pub-Club”. It was the only licensed premises in the Garden City and had a very substantial membership as a result. It is still very popular and has a healthy and thriving membership. Over the years the Club has given thousands of pounds to charity and has also had some notable Garden City personalities.
“I know that the Club is looking forward to celebrating another hundred years in due course.”
