MP’s Shock at Post Office Closures Announcement

North East Herts MP Oliver Heald was in the House of Commons for the announcement by Trade Secretary Alistair Darling MP, that 2,500 more post offices are to close and that in each area Post Office Limited will decide which post offices will close.

Commenting, Oliver Heald said, “I was shocked at this announcement of further post office closures. It was bad enough when they closed the Letchworth Garden City Post Office, but now some of our precious village post offices might be under threat. When they closed the Letchworth Garden City Post Office, the Managing Director was not even prepared to meet me. This increases my concern about the way in which this company acts. I have immediately written to the Post Office to ask what the implications are for our area.”
