Oliver Heald MP and the Electoral Commission remind people in East Hertfordshire and North Hertfordshire to get registered by 18 April

Three weeks left to register to vote in local elections

North East Hertfordshire MP issues reminder of 18 April registration deadline

East Hertfordshire and North Hertfordshire residents have only three weeks left to make sure that they are on the electoral register, if they want to vote in the local elections on 3 May. Unless they are registered by 18 April they will be unable to vote for their local council representatives.

Local MP Oliver Heald today gave his support to the Electoral Commission’s Registration Week, which launches today alongside an advertising campaign, to remind people to ensure they are registered

All people need to do is complete a simple form and return it to their local authority by 18 April, if they have not already completed and returned a form within the last six months. People who have recently moved house also need to do this as a matter of urgency.

Forms are downloadable from
www.aboutmyvote.co.uk, or by contacting the local authority’s electoral registration office directly.

Peter Wardle, Chief Executive at the Electoral Commission, said:

“Local elections take place on 3 May and voters in East Hertfordshire and North Hertfordshire need to make sure they don’t lose their right to vote by missing the registration deadline.

“Losing your vote means losing your voice and missing out on the chance to have your say on local issues from street lighting and sports facilities to local parks and transport.

“Registering couldn’t be easier. It only takes a few moments to fill out a simple form and put it in the post.”
